Product Marketing Challenges in Argentina Colgate Case - 1100 Words
Product Marketing Challenges in Argentina: Colgate Case (Essay Sample) Content: Product Marketing Challenges in ArgentinaStudentà ¢Ã¢â ¬s NameInstitutional AffiliationIntroductionArgentina has a stable economic development that makes it strategic for business partnerships. Many countries have always considered partnering with Argentina because of its rich and diversified cultural practices. The country also has large majority of literate population driving industrialization and financial sector. Argentina also has stable government with strong financial backing. Argentina is also blessed with extensive natural resources such as minerals and large water bodies thus promoting industrialization. The country also participates in intensive agricultural activities meant for external markets. They export majority of their agricultural produce. Argentina has also in the past experiences uneven economic variances with major recession making the county not fit for both international and local business. Product marketing in Argentina has faced major chal lenges forcing Argentinaà ¢Ã¢â ¬s bilateral trade with other countries to be at a standstill.Product marketing challenges faced in ArgentinaSlower Economic Growth has derailed market penetration of some key products in country. This may largely because of the complex fiscal systems in the region. Argentina has the most complex taxation system that threatens development of both startup companies and old companies as well. The taxation system in the region mostly increases the cost of production making final product expensive hence loses customer loyalty. Customers in Argentina tend to shy away from such products which in the end lead to the collapse of such companies. An example of products that faced stiff challenges due to complex tax system is Colgate. The company having initially originated from the USA found tough taxation measures, which thwarted its operation. The tax complexity made Colgateà ¢Ã¢â ¬s operation in the region very difficult; leading to continuous loses due to slow penetration in the market (Stanford et al., 2004).The second product marketing challenge in Argentina is strong trust for local products. Since the country is fully developed and has capacity to produce goods and services to suffice its people, penetration of a new product from external markets does not marshal business strength. Most products used by the county are manufactured from within and the trust given to local products is meant to protect local industries and ensure their local industries produce excess goods and services to serve external market. The dynamic toothpaste industry in Argentina led to the falling of Colgate and rising of local products such as Kolynos. The Kolynos toothpaste has gained trust by the argentines forcing an upward increase of the production capacity, therefore leading to product export to the neighboring countries. The third complexity facing product marketing in Argentina is Language barrier. Argentina being one of the Latin America count ries has diverse languages such as Spanish, English and French. The Argentines are majorly known to speak Spanish, thus requiring translators, in case of marketing new products with foreign backgrounds. Colgateà ¢Ã¢â ¬s ability to penetrate the Argentine market was thwarted by major language barriers and conservative nature of Argentines. The Argentines believed in buying their own products that will not require translators in case of during purchase. The conservative culture of Argentines made it difficult to open up Colgateà ¢Ã¢â ¬s operations in the region. This was also contributed to by the unfriendly nature of the locals making products sales difficult and very expensive. Since the official language of argentines is Spanish, all business transaction and government requirements had to be drawn in Spanish, making it difficult for foreign ventures such as Colgate to pick up full operation in the region. For foreign businesses to smoothly operate in the region, they require an employee base with multilingual acumen to easily understand the conservative consumers in Argentina (Stallings and Peres, 2000).Another threat to the penetration of foreign products in Argentina is that the country has very tough measures that govern business operations. Foreign investments have difficulty in completing their registration to commence operation in the region. The tough and bureaucratic nature of dealing with foreign ventures made it difficult for Colgate to dominate the market. All the Colgate abilities were faced with tough government policies in the region. These included heavy taxation of the company forcing cost of production to be overwhelmingly high, restrictions in the markets to access, heavy permits by the local authorities on their daily operations and finally long periods taken by the government to process the company documents that allow commencement of operation in regions with potential customers. These restrictions were put by the Argentine governme nt to protect local industries and avoid any anticipated foreign dominance. Colgate ceased operation in major regions of Argentina because of poor publicity of their products by the government. The government believed that local industry had high potential of serving the market better than the foreign ventures. The policy put by the government that foreign companies must employ more than a third its locals to be awarded business permit, also affected Colgate market penetration. This is because they had to employ locals with conservative approach to marketing, which would not promote the culture expected by any foreign venture for their dominance (Wild et al., 2008).The fifth product marketing challenge is inflation in the country. Argentina has faces a series of inflations revolving close to four decades. Such inflationary challenges affected the financial sector in Argentina. The uneven nature of inflation in the region has destabilized the market making money to lose its meaning. This led to the high costs of Colgateà ¢Ã¢â ¬s operation in the region since most of its core resources were imported thus becoming expensive to the company. The inflation caused the cost of purchasing company raw materials, both in Argentina and from forei...

Eriksonââ¬â¢s Eight Stages of Development and Occupational...
Erik Erikson was one the founding figures in naming the humanââ¬â¢s developmental stages. He stemmed his research off of his own life experiences. Today we use his framework for helping diagnose those with injuries with the best treatment possible. He was the person who coined the term ââ¬Å"identity crisisâ⬠that we so often hear of today. In this paper I will first describe Eriksonââ¬â¢s life and all his research, and then I will relate his work to occupational therapy. Biography Erik Erikson was born on June 15, 1902 in Frankfurt, Germany. According to his obituary that appeared in The New York Times, his parents were separated before he was born due to the fact that he was the result of an affair. He never met his birth father. By developing hope, the baby can stay positive whenever a crisis happens in their life. If the baby fails to develop this sense of hope, then the baby will learn to sense fear throughout their life. This type of fear will lead the baby to live a life full of insecurities and anxiety (McLeod, 2008). The second stage is Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt. This is when the child is developing its p hysical characteristics and begins moving around more. This stage occurs between the ages of 18 months and three years old. During this stage, the child will start to assert their independence by picking out what clothes they are going to wear or what they are going to eat, etc. As they begin to do things on their own they discover that they have skills, such as tying their shoes or putting their toys together, etc. According to Erikson, it is critical that the parents at this time allow their child to explore the world and figure out their limits with encouragement and support them when they inevitably fail. During this crucial time, the parent must not intervene too much in their childââ¬â¢s life and allow the child to make their own decisionsShow MoreRelatedThe Occupation Of Gardening And Its Therapeutic Benefits For Children5855 Words à |à 24 Pagesgardening as a therapeutic tool in occupational therapy date back to Hartwell (1933). Reflecting on Religion in Literature - 1925 Words
I am a Religious Studies major; therefore, learning about religion is a genuine interest of mine. In addition, from my first anthropology class, Introduction to Anthropology 103, learning about different cultures and people who may or may not be different from myself became an interest. Anthropology of Religion provides me with the best of both worlds. Not only do I get the opportunity to learn about different religious practices such as Tiwah among the Ngaju but how to anthropologically examine snake handlers in the Appalachians. One issue remains concerning the definition of religion. The semester began with us using theorists and their theories to construct a definition of religion. Willerslevââ¬â¢s idea of ââ¬Å"not an animal, not not an animalâ⬠causes one to respond in awe and to question his logic. However, one quickly understands what he means. There is a place mentally where a person can be two different things without losing sight of who he is. Willerslev explains this when he introduce Old Spridon who mimics an elk to the point where Willerslev is confused as to who he is sees, Old Spridon or an elk. Willerslev uses this analogy to introduce his main point of liminality. Willerslev states it best when he writes, ââ¬Å"it was not that Spridon has stopped being human. Rather, he had a liminal quality: he was not an elk, and yet he was also not not an elk. He was occupying a strange place in between human and nonhuman identitiesâ⬠(Willerslev 2). What appears to be strange is not strange in retrospect. Willerslev illustrates that humans, animals, and gods are similar because one is able to mi mic the other. 10 page update on The Netherlands Essay Example For Students
10 page update on The Netherlands Essay The Netherlands is low-lying country in western Europe located west of Germany and north of Belgium. According to a 1993 estimate, the Netherlands had a population of 15,224,942. The overall population density was about 449 persons per sq km (about 1162 per sq mi) which makes it one of the most densely populated countries in the world. About 89 percent of the population live in urban areas. The largest cities are Amsterdam (population, 1992 estimate, 713,407), the countrys capital; Rotterdam (589,707), one of the worlds leading seaports; The Hague (445,287), the nations seat of government; and Utrecht (232,705), a manufacturing hub. The official language of the Netherlands is Dutch, which is spoken throughout the country. The Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government operating under an 1812 constitution with amendments. The hereditary monarch, who has had little power in running the government since the constitution was revised in 1848, acts a s the head of the state while the principal executive official of the country is the prime minister. He is appointed by the monarch and heads a cabinet that is responsible to the States-General (legislature). The Dutch parliament, called the States-General, consists of a First Chamber, composed of 75 members elected to terms of up to six years by the provincial legislatures, and a Second Chamber, made up of 150 members popularly elected to terms of up to four years under a system of proportional representation. Either or both chambers may be dissolved by the monarch on condition that new elections be held within 40 days. The Second Chamber is by far the more important of the two; the First Chamber has little more than a rarely exercised veto power over the legislative process. The Netherlands uses systems of proportional representation in electing municipal, provincial, and national assemblies. This allows even small political parties to win a seat. In the 1986 Second Chamber electi ons, for example, more than 25 parties took part and nine won seats. On the national level, the Netherlands has always been governed by coalitions of parties, the formation of which has often proved difficult. However, one such coalition was formed in 1994 between the PvdA (Labor), VVD (Conservative Liberals), and D66 (Social Liberals). The PvdA and VVD are parties that have both been around for quite some time. What made the 1994 election so big was the defeat of the CDA (Christian Democrats) by D66. This combination of parties proved to be quite advantageous to the Netherlands. It was the first government since 1917, when the suffrage was extended to all male adults, without Christian Democrats (Van der Brug 179). During the reign of this coalition, the economy of the Netherlands soared. Consumer spending increased and unemployment decreased to a low of 5 percent in the first quarter of 1998 There is no such doubt about the performance of the Dutch economy. Gross domestic product (GDP) has expanded strongly in the last two years by 2.7 percent in 1996 and 3.4 per cent in 1997- and analysts expect GDP Growth to be even higher in 1998 (Mottershaw 9). With all of the economic growth that happening in the Netherlands, one would assume that the elections of 1998 would keep the same coalition together. However, in a multiparty system such as the Netherlands, things are never that simple. Governing parties may be collaborating partners in coalition, but, in the run-up to the election they increasingly become opponents competing for votes (Van der Brug 180). This competition for votes is exactly what took place in the 1998 elections. The popularity of the prime minister Wim Kok and his party, PvdA, won the party more seats which were taken from the D66. D66 also gave up some seats to other small parties such as the Socialist Party and the Green Left. The results of this recent election have caused a major stir in the country and around the world. Since the purple c oalition was created in 1994 D66 has played a pivotal role, bridging the gap between the two main parties. However, with their seats reduced by nearly half from 24 to 14 the partys participation in the .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 , .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 .postImageUrl , .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 , .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0:hover , .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0:visited , .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0:active { border:0!important; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0:active , .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0 .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf00951dc924a85f11fcaf09a9c85b4d0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Essay
